Foreign Nationals Can Rent A Vehicle To Travel To An Airport
With effect from 2 April 2020 foreign nationals in New Zealand can now drive, take private or public land transport, or take domestic flights, in order to connect with commercial, or chartered, international flights to their home country. AERODRIVE can provide a rental vehicle but there will be requirements that need to be met when reserving your car.
Reservations can be made by calling 0800 237 637. As our locations are currently not staffed full time, please give us plenty of notice so we can arrange the collection of a vehicle without person-to-person contact. Note that our vehicles are completely disinfected and have been through an enhanced cleaning process.
Prior to collecting the vehicle you will be required to confirm that you:
- Have evidence of an international flight within the following 48 hours
- Are not diagnosed with COVID-19 (or have been declared as recovered by a medical doctor)
- Do not have symptoms consistent with COVID-19
- Are not awaiting results for COVID-19 testing
- Are not a close contact of a suspected/probable/confirmed case of COVID-19; and
- Have not traveled internationally within the last 14 days.
You may be required to sign an acknowledgement at the time of renting the vehicle to that effect.
The maximum period you will be able to rent a vehicle for is 48 hours.

Covid-19 – Alert Level 4
The New Zealand Government has ordered a lockdown until 25 April 2020.
All Aerodrive branches are now closed to the general public.
Aerodrive remains open for bookings for any essential services providers in order to support them in the delivery of Government defined essential services.
If you’re an essential service provider and you need a rental vehicle:
Call our Customer Contact Centre on 0800 AERODRIVE (0800 237637) or email us at [email protected] or via GDS through your contracted travel provider.
Please note: No private business is available over this time, this service is for pre-booked vehicles for the purpose of fulfillment of essential services only and is available for pick up between the hours of 0800-1700 across most locations nationwide.
What if I have a booking that is impacted by this lock down?
Overseas returning customers
Travel restrictions outlined by the New Zealand government dictate that anyone who returns from overseas must self-isolate for a 14 day period. The Police, Ministry of Health (MOH) & Immigration NZ are acting to arrest, quarantine and deport people who fail to self-isolate when required.
Please note at this time, we are unable to rent you a vehicle if you arrive during the lock down. You will need to find alternative means of approved travel to your self-isolation point.
No cancellation fees will be charged for any impacted bookings.
For any customers that have made bookings through a travel agent, third party website or travel broker, please contact them directly for further assistance around your disrupted travel pans.
I’m due to return a vehicle after the closedown starts what do I do?
Vehicles may not be able to be returned during the lock down period unless you have a valid outbound air ticket. Email us at [email protected] to discuss options to retain the vehicle or if urgent call us on 0800 237637.
What if my booking is not directly impacted but I want to make changes?
Changes to future bookings can be made freely through our NZ based contact centre. Email us at [email protected] or if urgent call 0800 2376374.
Can I make future bookings?
Yes, we are accepting bookings for all dates outside of the current lockdown (after 25 April 2020).
